Focus on Stress Management

Setting goals is imperative in achieving success. However, sometimes we get caught up in the long-term that we can’t see where we are causing us to be overwhelmed.

When you find yourself logged down with anxiety from overthinking everything that is required of you at work or at home, the steps you need to take to get to your goal, how far away it seems…..take a breath. And then let it out. And then another. Then one more.

Focus on you. The you in this moment….right here, right now. Dismiss the thoughts of the long-term and consider what’s in your power at this time. The only job you need to accomplish today is to be a better version of you than you were yesterday.

There’s NO Comparison

When we compare ourselves to others, we are setting strict guidelines as to how our personal goals should be met. When we don’t conform to those expectations, we begin to judge ourselves harshly, begin to feel inadequate, or like a failure. This is far from the truth, but is often the reality.

There will always be people who are on a similar path as you, but they will never be the same as yours. Your journey is YOUR journey.

The guy you work with who is taking the same medication and losing way faster than you while eating complete garbage….Yes, he’s on a similar path, but it doesn’t matter if his success is faster or easier than yours. It is not YOUR journey.

The girl with the same medical diagnosis causing her infertility who only had to have one procedure before getting pregnant….Yes, she’s on a similar path, but it doesn’t matter if his success is faster or easier than yours. It is not YOUR journey.

The man who recommended TRT because it gave him back his vitality, increased muscle mass, and improved his sexual performance within 1 month…..Yes, he’s on a similar path, but it doesn’t matter if his success is faster or easier than yours. It is not YOUR journey.

The sibling who has the same parents that you have but doesn’t need medication, supplements, special diets, or routine physical activity to stay thin…..Yes, they’re on a similar path, but it doesn’t matter if their success is faster or easier than yours. It is not YOUR journey.

Stop comparing yourself to others! Instead, allow their journey to inspire us to continue towards our goals. The only person that matters in any of these scenarios is you. The person you were, the person you are, and the person you will become.

Teen Obesity, FDA Approved Medication

The FDA recently approved the use of Wegovy (semaglutide) for the treatment of obesity in teens ages 12 years and older. It is the first and only weekly anti-obesity medication approved for adolescents. Initial BMI must be at or above the 95th percentile to qualify. In clinical trials, this once weekly subcutaneous injection has shown to reduce BMI by an average of 16.1% in teens ages 12+.

Obesity affects nearly 70% of adolescents and of those with weight issues, 90% will continue to struggle with weight and/or weight-related health problems into adulthood. As the rate of teen obesity continues to rise, we are finally a step in the right direction. Having this tool provides an option for early intervention, making weight management and behavior changes much more impactful. Weekly weight loss injections give teens the opportunity to learn behaviors that will allow them to lose weight and keep it off, reducing their risks of adulthood obesity.

If your teen meets the criteria (ages 12+ and BMI >95th percentile), schedule an initial consultation today for personalized care plans to help your child have a brighter future.

Celebrate Every Win!!!

Group

You can motivate, inspire, and relieve stress simply by acknowledging and celebrating small wins.

Sure, it’s easy to celebrate the big wins, but our dreams and goals take time, they don’t happen overnight. Making small goals and taking those baby steps allow you to keep yourself motivated and realize what all has been accomplished.

If you don’t take the time to appreciate the small achievements, it could have a negative impact on motivation, attitude, and productivity. Working towards your big goal can be difficult without motivation.

Celebrating small wins triggers feelings of pride and a happiness. By doing this, you keep yourself motivated to continue working towards the next small win, eventually leading to the overall goal.

So even if 2022 didn’t end with your ultimate goal achieved, take a moment to celebrate the small wins you did accomplish.

Whether it’s 1 lb., 1 day of relaxation, 1 trip to the gym, 1 night of uninterrupted sleep, 1 time of saying no to avoid overextending yourself, 1 doctor’s appointment, 1 meditation session, 1 thing marked off your to-do list……whatever it is, you are 1 step closer to making your dream a reality. Look how much closer you are to that goal!!!

Feeling Run Down?

Are you feeling run down? Does just the routine of every day life cause you to feel tired ALL. THE. TIME??

Occasionally, stress at work or at home can take a toll on our energy levels. Sometimes, just sitting on the couch scrolling through Instagram or TikTok takes the last ounce of energy we can muster. When our motivation is low, our responsibilities begin to pile up and increase our stress levels. Day in, day out. Constant stress overload. Being in a state of chronic stress can overwhelm your adrenals, leaving you feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted all the time.

When we have hormonal imbalances, we tend to have difficulty dealing with everyday stressors. Coupled with common symptoms of imbalance like fatigue, poor sleep, weight gain, brain fog, muscle aches, and joint pain (just to name a few), we simply get overwhelmed.

When these symptoms appear, there could be multiple culprits, making it difficult to know what our bodies need in order to feel our best. If you’re between 30-65 years old, it may be time to evaluate your hormone levels.

Feeling Overwhelmed?

Girl undecided

Are you experiencing stress at work, at home, or just sitting on the couch scrolling through Instagram thinking about how you’re “doing absolutely nothing while everyone else is out there living their best life”??? Yeah, this time of year is notorious for increased stress, reflections, and unrealistic expectations. And social media doesn’t help!

Get Out of Your Way!

Overcome your excuses.

Back to talking about matters that delay you from achieving your weight loss goals. We’ve already examined that your mind has to be ready, you must be mentally ‘THERE’. Ready to discuss another big obstacle?

2) You’re giving yourself excuses.

Yep. Whether it’s unintentional or purposefully, everyone does it. Trust me, I can talk myself out of ‘dieting’ all year long!

“I can’t start my diet today because it’s Rhonda’s Baby Shower next Thursday and I know Aunt Betty is going to make her famous potato salad. What’s the point in starting now if I know I’m going to eat that? Oh, Jack + Amy’s wedding is in 2 weeks. I’ll start after that. Wait…we’re gonna be in Florida for a week visiting my parents the week after. I know they’re going to want to eat out every night so I can’t start until after we return. Then, ugh…I just realized that our daughter’s birthday is the 20th and we’ll be having people over. No one wants diet food for a birthday party, plus there’s cake and ice cream. I’ll just have to wait until the first of the month. Well hang on a minute, that’s a Friday and I’m meeting up with my girlfriends. I know we’ll be drinking some adult beverages for our GNO so I’ll just hold off until the following Monday.”

See what happened? A whole month just flew by because of random occasions that could be used as an excuse. I know you’ve been there, too. It just sounds way more ridiculous coming from someone else’s mouth. 😉

C’mon… let’s go back to the last post. Be honest with yourself. Where do those excuses leave you? Unhealthy, fatigued, grumpy, bloated, and discouraged with myself that you haven’t followed through.

Understand that there will ALWAYS be holidays, vacations, birthdays, special occasions, get-togethers, etc. Is there one full month where you have absolutely nothing going on in your life?? I already know the answer. And so do you. There is never going to be a time where you won’t have the opportunity to delay initiating better health habits.

And more times than not, overeating occurs in anticipation of the dreaded upcoming ‘diet’. In that respect, giving yourself excuses is actually working against you causing you to eat more and gain weight.

Stop using these events as rationalizations from being committed to yourself and reaching your weight loss goals. Get out of your way!

Weight Loss Begins with the Mind

Diet. I completely loathe that word.

There’s something about the thought of going on a ‘diet’ that makes me absolutely nauseous. Maybe it’s because I remember in vivid detail how I felt each time I would start the latest “all the rage” diet, mapping out a brand-new beginning for myself. I would foolishly yet optimistically hope that this diet was going to be ‘the one’. I assumed that fad diets would fix everything if I just found ‘the one’. It was going to be as simple as eating certain foods, at certain times of the day, for a certain amount of time and voila! My weight problems would be solved.

The truth is we have been programmed by society to associate the word ‘diet’ with restrictions, deprivation, hunger, and dissatisfaction. However, the literal definition of the word diet is “the type of foods that a person, family, or community habitually consume as a way of living”. It is nothing more than mere nourishment needed to survive. It’s not a dirty word, it’s not even a remotely negative word. But let’s be honest, in regards to how WE actually perceive the word….DIETS suck. RESTRICTIONS suck. HUNGER sucks.

So let’s talk about it.

My first few blog posts will discuss some issues that can hinder you from reaching your weight loss goals.

1) You’re not ready.

Like I said on my home page, weight loss starts with your MIND. I don’t mean just thinking to yourself, “I want to lose some weight”. Your mind must be ‘THERE. I know you know what I mean. It simply has to be THERE. Mental preparation is vitally important to your success. If you’re not mentally on the same page as your body, you will likely not get the lasting results you desire.

How do you know you’re mentally prepared and your mind is ‘THERE’? You are dedicated to working towards your weight loss, and continue working, no matter what. It’s a struggle, it won’t be easy, and you need to be ready to accept the challenge. You are willing to forge a commitment of being honest with yourself and refuse to flounder once and for all.

That commitment entails that you are going to be your biggest cheerleader instead of your worst critic. Negative self-talk sets you up for failure, guilt, and lower self-worth. Choose to focus on your accomplishments rather than your failures and it will lead to more positive results. It’s a fact proven by scientific research! Be filled with positivity because your thoughts do influence your actions. If your mind’s not in it, you won’t get far.

I’ll say it again for the people in the back: Weight loss begins with the MIND.
