Tips to Increase Fat Burning

Your body can be a fat-burning machine. Truly! Here’s a few ways to help you rev up the engine and get that body burning fat instead of the ‘candle at both ends’.

Healthy Fats

— Healthy fats are needed in our diet, but be careful. Healthy fats are high in calories and should be consumed in moderation. Examples of healthy fats include avocado, nuts and seeds, fatty fish like tuna and salmon, olive oil, and coconut oil.

— Resistance Training is a type of exercise that involves using resistance to build strength, muscle size, and endurance. The purpose of resistance training is to improve overall fitness and health by challenging and improving the body’s musculoskeletal system. It builds muscle, improves strength, improves bone density, boosts metabolism, and enhances overall health.

— Cutting back on sugar can help with weight management and reduce the risk of associated health problems such as diabetes and heart disease. High sugar intake has been linked to chronic inflammation in the body, which can increase the risk of various health problems, including heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. Because foods high in sugar are low in nutrients, nutrient deficiencies and health problems can occur as a result over time.

— Probiotics are live microorganisms, often referred to as “good” bacteria, that provide health benefits when consumed in adequate amounts. When ingested, probiotics can colonize the gut and interact with other microorganisms in the body to promote overall health and well-being. They help improve gut health, reduce inflammation, and boost immunity.

— Managing stress levels can be an important part of a weight loss program, particularly for people who struggle with emotional eating or other stress-related behaviors that can interfere with weight loss efforts. Having avenues for stress management reduce cortisol levels, improve sleep, promote healthy habits, and reduce inflammation….all of which have been linked to weight gain.

Are you Hydrated for Weight Loss?

Did you know that drinking water can help with weight loss? It’s absolutely essential to our body, yet most people do not adequately hydrate daily. Drinking water can aid in weight loss in several ways:

  • Increases feelings of fullness: Drinking water before meals can help to increase feelings of fullness, which can lead to eating fewer calories overall. This can help with weight loss by reducing the number of calories consumed throughout the day.

  • Boosts metabolism: Drinking water can temporarily increase metabolism, which is the rate at which the body burns calories. This effect is thought to be due to the body having to work to warm up the water to body temperature.

  • Replaces high-calorie beverages: Drinking water instead of high-calorie beverages like sugary soda or juice can help to reduce overall calorie intake, which can lead to weight loss over time.

  • Reduces water retention: When the body is dehydrated, it can retain water in an effort to prevent further water loss. This can lead to bloating and water weight gain. Drinking enough water can help to reduce water retention and promote a leaner appearance.

It is important to note that while drinking water can aid in weight loss, it is not a magic solution on its own. Weight loss also requires a healthy diet and regular physical activity. Drinking water can be a helpful tool to support these efforts. What are you waiting for? Grab some water and get hydrated!

Importance of Healthy Fats in your Diet

Healthy Fats

You’ve heard how important it is to have healthy fats in your diet. But do you know why and what foods actually contain healthy fats?

Healthy fats play an essential role in our overall health and well-being. Here are some of the reasons why we need healthy fats in our diet:

  • Energy: Fats are an excellent source of energy. They provide more energy per gram than carbohydrates or protein. The body can use fat as fuel for prolonged periods, making it an ideal source of energy for endurance activities.

  • Absorption of nutrients: Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble vitamins, meaning they need fat to be absorbed and utilized by the body.

  • Brain function: The brain is made up of about 60% fat, and it requires a steady supply of healthy fats to function correctly. Omega-3 fatty acids, in particular, are essential for brain health and may help prevent cognitive decline.

  • Hormone production: Fats are essential for the production of hormones such as estrogen, testosterone, and cortisol.

  • Heart health: Healthy fats can help lower bad cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to have a protective effect on the heart.

  • Joint health: Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce joint pain and stiffness in people with arthritis.

Overall, incorporating healthy fats into your diet can have numerous benefits for your health and well-being. It’s essential to choose healthy fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats found in foods like avocado, nuts, seeds, and fatty fish.

Signs of a Healthy Gut

A healthy gut plays an important role in weight loss because it is home to trillions of microorganisms, collectively known as the gut microbiome, that help to regulate various aspects of our metabolism and immune function. Research has shown that an imbalanced gut microbiome may contribute to weight gain and obesity.

Here are a few reasons why a healthy gut is important for weight loss:

  • Regulation of appetite and food cravings: The gut microbiome produces hormones and other signaling molecules that influence our hunger and satiety signals, which can impact our food intake and overall calorie balance.

  • Improved nutrient absorption: A healthy gut microbiome can improve the absorption of key nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, which can help to support a healthy metabolism.

  • Reduced inflammation: An imbalanced gut microbiome can lead to chronic inflammation in the body, which has been linked to weight gain and obesity.

  • Better insulin sensitivity: The gut microbiome can influence insulin sensitivity, which is important for regulating blood sugar levels and preventing weight gain.

Overall, a healthy gut is crucial for supporting healthy weight management and overall health. To improve gut health, focus on consuming a diverse array of plant-based foods, staying hydrated, getting enough fiber, and avoiding highly processed and inflammatory foods. Additionally, consuming probiotic-rich foods or taking probiotic supplements may also help to improve gut health.

There’s NO Comparison

When we compare ourselves to others, we are setting strict guidelines as to how our personal goals should be met. When we don’t conform to those expectations, we begin to judge ourselves harshly, begin to feel inadequate, or like a failure. This is far from the truth, but is often the reality.

There will always be people who are on a similar path as you, but they will never be the same as yours. Your journey is YOUR journey.

The guy you work with who is taking the same medication and losing way faster than you while eating complete garbage….Yes, he’s on a similar path, but it doesn’t matter if his success is faster or easier than yours. It is not YOUR journey.

The girl with the same medical diagnosis causing her infertility who only had to have one procedure before getting pregnant….Yes, she’s on a similar path, but it doesn’t matter if his success is faster or easier than yours. It is not YOUR journey.

The man who recommended TRT because it gave him back his vitality, increased muscle mass, and improved his sexual performance within 1 month…..Yes, he’s on a similar path, but it doesn’t matter if his success is faster or easier than yours. It is not YOUR journey.

The sibling who has the same parents that you have but doesn’t need medication, supplements, special diets, or routine physical activity to stay thin…..Yes, they’re on a similar path, but it doesn’t matter if their success is faster or easier than yours. It is not YOUR journey.

Stop comparing yourself to others! Instead, allow their journey to inspire us to continue towards our goals. The only person that matters in any of these scenarios is you. The person you were, the person you are, and the person you will become.

Teen Obesity, FDA Approved Medication

The FDA recently approved the use of Wegovy (semaglutide) for the treatment of obesity in teens ages 12 years and older. It is the first and only weekly anti-obesity medication approved for adolescents. Initial BMI must be at or above the 95th percentile to qualify. In clinical trials, this once weekly subcutaneous injection has shown to reduce BMI by an average of 16.1% in teens ages 12+.

Obesity affects nearly 70% of adolescents and of those with weight issues, 90% will continue to struggle with weight and/or weight-related health problems into adulthood. As the rate of teen obesity continues to rise, we are finally a step in the right direction. Having this tool provides an option for early intervention, making weight management and behavior changes much more impactful. Weekly weight loss injections give teens the opportunity to learn behaviors that will allow them to lose weight and keep it off, reducing their risks of adulthood obesity.

If your teen meets the criteria (ages 12+ and BMI >95th percentile), schedule an initial consultation today for personalized care plans to help your child have a brighter future.

Feeling Run Down?

Are you feeling run down? Does just the routine of every day life cause you to feel tired ALL. THE. TIME??

Occasionally, stress at work or at home can take a toll on our energy levels. Sometimes, just sitting on the couch scrolling through Instagram or TikTok takes the last ounce of energy we can muster. When our motivation is low, our responsibilities begin to pile up and increase our stress levels. Day in, day out. Constant stress overload. Being in a state of chronic stress can overwhelm your adrenals, leaving you feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted all the time.

When we have hormonal imbalances, we tend to have difficulty dealing with everyday stressors. Coupled with common symptoms of imbalance like fatigue, poor sleep, weight gain, brain fog, muscle aches, and joint pain (just to name a few), we simply get overwhelmed.

When these symptoms appear, there could be multiple culprits, making it difficult to know what our bodies need in order to feel our best. If you’re between 30-65 years old, it may be time to evaluate your hormone levels.
